Vietnam – Japan signed seven ODA agreements

Japan ODA agreements signedOn November 10, in Tokyo, Vice Minister of Finance of Vietnam Tran Xuan Ha and Mr. Kenzo Oshima, Vice President of the International Cooperation Agency of Japan (JICA) signed seven agreements for the first ODA loan commitment, in fiscal year 2009, with a total value of loans is 119.791 billion Japanese Yen.

Accordingly, Japan will loan for Vietnam to implement five projects, including: funding for small and medium enterprises Phase III; encouraged to use energy efficiency and clean energy; construction Thermal Pacific electric transmission line and phase one, construction of roads, road to avoid a period two; development infrastructure reduction in small scale, with a total loan value is 65 billion yen.

Besides the two loans under the Poverty Reduction Support Credit 8th (PRSC 8) of 7 billion yen and the PRSC program with eight stimulus package to support economic development, worth 47.9 billion yen .

Since 1992, this is the 17th consecutive year, the Government of Japan ODA loan to Vietnam with total capital commitments to date to over 1369 billion yen. The country is often held positions as donor largest bilateral ODA to Vietnam.

Loan commitments in fiscal year 2009 is worth lending the largest commitment ever by the Government of Japan. In recent years, ODA loan projects in Japan most concentrated in the development of infrastructure such as energy, transport, seaports, telecommunication ... projects such as Pha Lai Thermal Power Plant , Phu My Thermal Power Plant, Highway 10, Highway 18, Bai Chay Bridge, East-West highway ... has significantly contributed to economic development - society of Vietnam in recent years.

In this fiscal year, in addition to support Vietnam's implementation of projects on infrastructure, environment, supporting small and medium enterprises the Government of Japan also funded two loans to Vietnam in cash in a total value of 54.9 billion yen in the form of budget support to implement the poverty reduction targets and supporting stimulate economic development in order to overcome the consequences of the economic crisis.
